THE CANNING TRIP

THE CANNING TRIP

This is a rough itinerary to give you an idea of where we will be going, some areas may have changed due to the weather at the time.
Please have a read through and let me know what you think.

After talking to a couple of people interested in the trip we have decided that the first part of the trip through the Simpson Desert to Mount Dare then to Alice Springs for a couple of days, from there we go via Bond Springs onto the Tanami track to Halls Creek through Billiluna. We will spend up to 18 days on the Canning, traveling to Wiluna (I have been in touch with the people at the Capricorn roadhouse and am pleased to say that the fuel dump at Well 23 is again happening). Once we leave Wiluna, we travel along the Gunbarrel Highway toward Warburton, then onto Yulara (Ayers Rock and the Olga’s where we stay for a couple of days to see the sights, accommodation is available at the resort but we have to pre-book for a large group.

From this point on we can head back to Alice Springs or turn south at Erldunda and head to Coober Pedy and then to Williams Creek and Lake Eyre (flights are available through Trevor Wright at WRIGHTSAIR) if you would like to take a scenic flight over the lake.

When we leave William Creek, we will travel the Oodnadatta track to Maree then to LYNDHURST where we turn east onto the Strzelcki track past the Moomba gas and oil fields to Innaminka then to Noccundra, Cunnamulla, St George. At this point can take either the Moonie highway or Carnarvan, Barwon highway depending on time factors to visit GOONDIWINDI, WARWICK or TOOWOOMBA before making your way back to your starting point.

As I know there is a lot to see in all of this area and some of the trip members have been through some of these places before but you never get to see everything. If you have a place of interest you want to see, please let me know.

I am going to try to fit as much into this trip as possible without going overboard and would appreciate any input you would like to offer.

PORT LINCOLN 2009

The 2009 International Scout Club get-together was held t the coastal township of
Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsular, South Australia. Extensive research ad planning
was put in by and organising committee from the Victorian Club.

The venue at the Lions Club Hostel was well equipped with accommodation,
amenities and a big function shed – plenty of parking for our 25 or so caravans.
The committee had arrived a few days prior and set things up so that all was
in readiness. As members arrived from all parts of the country,
old acquaintances were renewed. Scout owners came from as far away as
Atherton Tablelands and Perth. Trips had been organised around the area to
see National Parks and local attractions. One local farmer heard about
the intended get-together and offered a viewing of his tractor collection – in
excess of 130. And you think Scout Owners are addicted!!

A line up of the vehicles at the Wheatsheath Hotel for a photo shot was held prior to
moving on to the foreshore of the city centre near the Makybe Diva statue where the
vehicles were paraded for viewing by the general public.

The vehicles at the get-together ranged from standard factory
issue to extensively restored and optioned.

With the main part of the get-together over, some trips were arranged to the local National Parks – Coffin Bay,
Whalers Way and Point Sir Isaac.

Makes you glad you got out of bed early to catch sunrise over Boston Bay.
From here we all went on our various ways looking forward to the next get-together in the Blue Mountains region of N.S.W. in 2011
